The first chapter of our journey

Ready to depart in the snow!
On 5:00PM sharp, the gang met at the flag pole, ready to depart in the snowy January weather. Sadly, JJ and his wife were stuck behind a broken train so they didn't arrive at Carthage until 6:00PM. The rest of the journey to the airport was full of snow, ice, wind, and broken windshield wipers. It was really cool to start to get to know some of the students on the way down.
Don't sleep in the aisles!
When we arrived at the airport, we were an hour and a half later than we were supposed to be.  It ended up not being a problem, though, because we still had about 2 hours to pal around before we boarded.  I had fun talking to people and finally learning the names of a couple of the students...
As we boarded, we went through the usual task of all of the safety instructions and how to buckle a seatbelt. Oh and the informative video made sure to tell us not to sleep in the aisles of the plane...
I sat next to Mac, and we enjoyed playing the video games and fooling around with the plane gadgets.

There was a TV on the back of the seat!!
This was a map of our progress from Chicago to Copenhagen.

After the plane took off, I put in my headphones and slept for almost the rest of the flight (7 hours and 45 minutes).  The next day at about 2 (Sweden time), we arrived at the Copenhagen airport. We had left an hour late the night before (11PM instead of 10PM), so when we got to the airport, we were informed that we had been put on another flight, which left at about 5PM. This allowed us to explore the Copenhagen airport, which was AMAZING! It was like being in a mall. They had everything that a mall would have, and things that a normal mall SHOULD have. This included unlimited cappuccino refills, which was heavenly after such a long flight.
The next flight was only 45 minutes long. I set next to a man that worked for the bus department of Volvo.  He was very interesting to talk to and told me about all of his travels around the world. His wife works at AstraZeneca, which is a pharmaceutical company in Sweden that I want to visit. I regret not asking him for his business card.
This was the party taxi that we took
When we arrived in Sweden, it took another hour to get taxis that would take us to our hostel. The taxi I rode in had lights that looked like Cash Cab lights. The driver played a bunch of cool party music, so the drive to the hostel seemed very short.
The hostel is really nice. They have a kitchen and a lounge that are both really nice. Within the first 15 minutes of arriving at the hostel, I blew the fuse of the entire first wing, which was really embarrassing...
But I got it fixed and we went to dinner at an awesome Italian restaurant. It was Klayton's 23rd birthday, so he got a cake with sparklers on it.
Klayton's cake!
After dinner, we walked around and ended up at a bar called rumpanbar & kok. It was a smaller bar, and it was pretty slow so we just hung out amongst ourselves, which was kind of disappointing. I really want to meet some locals and talk to them about life in Sweden!  Oh well, that can be my task for tomorrow! Goodnight everyone!
