Volvo Cars :)

This morning, Austin made eggs and bacon for breakfast. Mmmmm. Also, today was the day we were set to visit Volvo Car Corporation. We left promptly at 11 and got to eat a lot of food from the cafe at Volvo.  I had delicious Swedish meatballs and lingonberries. After I ate, I got to shop in the store, which was filled with moderately cool but overpriced items.
We then met with Jonas Wepsäläinen (How do you pronounce that??). He is a Safety Specialist at Volvo Car Corporation. He gave us a tour of a room that is used to promote their product, cars.  The room was filled with different types of Volvo cars and different reasons to buy them instead of any other car.
This was a small car in the gift shop.

Jonas told us about the different steel in the cars.
Volvo cars are very safe and it's really cool to see how they operate and what the specific safety features are.
Jonas showed us pictures of different crashes with Volvo cars, and it was amazing to see the damage.  The outer shell would be completely crushed, but when you looked inside, you could barely tell that the car had been in an accident

This was the room that we started in.

The next thing we did was to go out into the factory. The factory was filled with machines building the different Volvo cars, which was super cool, especially because we saw what the cars actually looked like while getting built. The commercials you see where the robots build the cars are all totally accurate. It's amazing how cool the process is. We saw the car from start to finish. They showed us the raw materials and the final car with the paint and everything.
After we looked through the factory, we went back to the main building and hung out until it was close to the time our bus was supposed to arrive. Then we waited in the cold for about 25 minutes before our bus arrived. I fell asleep on the bus ride home because I was so tired.  Anyway, when we got back to the hostel, Katie and I went straight to a little shoe store that was down the road. I bought new shoes that won't kill my feet! Yay!

This train took us around the factory.

Nice safety goggles...
After that, We went to the supermarket and bought bread, butter, garlic, and pasta sauce.  Then we brought it back and made amazing food. I ate with Mike, Austin, and Katie and we made the most amazing pasta, salad, and bread EVER! Then, I blogged and hung out with the rest of my class... Today was a good day. Hopefully I can get to sleep early so that I can concentrate in our meetings tomorrow!
